“Into a New Life,” a solo performance recital by James Hutchings, will take place at 7:30 p.m. March 4 in Carl Sandburg College’s Fine Arts Theater (Room F118) on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

Hutchings, associate dean of humanities and fine arts at Sandburg, will take the audience through an evening of song and story that focuses on a personal journey through darkness and into light, with a message of love and hope. In it, Hutchings shares a self-reflective story that discusses subjects such as self-care, mental health and identity.

“Planning, preparing and executing a solo recital is a labor of love in which all your training and experience comes into play,” Hutchings said. “Making that recital a personal, intimate experience requires engaging with the music, the story and the audience in a different way, and I’m both nervous and excited to do so.”

Mature themes with language appropriate for all will be discussed. Doors will open at 7 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested, with proceeds going toward the Sandburg choir.
